The Robert E. Pitts Endowment for Appalachia was created by Bob's family and friends as a tribute to his dedication to low-income citizens of Appalachian Ohio.
The Fund will be used to bring attention to the plight and address the issues of the underrepresented in Appalachian Ohio and to provide professional growth opportunities to weatherization employees and programs that serve disadvantaged citizens living in the 30-county area served by the Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development (COAD) and its member community action agencies, especially in the arenas of energy conservation and emerging green technologies.
At this time, the Fund is still in the development stage, and is not accepting applications or awarding funds. Please visit the How to Help page for information on how to help continue Bob's vision.
Bob Pitts was the deputy director of COAD until his untimely passing in 2006. During his 30-year tenure at COAD, Bob helped leverage and invest over $188 million in energy conservation programs that weatherized over 72,000 low-income homes throughout Appalachian Ohio. Bob was an advocate for professional development as a capacity-building strategy to help achieve the agency's mission.
Appalachian Ohio refers to the 29 counties of Ohio designated as part of the Appalachian region. In the 1960s, the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) was formed to address issues specific to our region of the United States.
